Favorite quote: “If you think lifting weights is dangerous, try being weak. Being weak is dangerous.”
3 adjectives that describe you: goofball, passionate, athletic, stubborn
How did you end up becoming a trainer/class instructor?: I was an athlete my whole life and found strength training when I started training with Bret Contreras in 2008. I became enamored with it and never looked back. I love training and have been training consistently for 10 years.
Describe your class style: I teach small groups and do mini-seminars. I am extremely passionate in my teaching and also free-flowing. I like to use feedback to help my clients and so I’m constantly encouraging people to try things different ways to see how it feels for them and help them find what they like.
Describe your teaching/training style/philosophy: I am a big proponent of strength training but I also truly believe that the best training style is the one you like. I’m always communicating with my clients to ensure that they are enjoying what we’re doing. I encourage and challenge them to try new things to see what they find to be fun and also help them achieve the results they want. There is no such thing as a cookie-cutter program in my book. We will always use basics, but how we build on those basics will depend on the client.
3 most important things when it comes to training: Safety, Enjoyment, Progress
What sports or athletic endeavors you had as a youth: I played baseball with the guys until I was 16. I was the quarterback of my flag football team in middle school and won the City Championships. I also did high jump and played volleyball briefly.
Most challenging lift/exercise or sport: Hm. Tough choice. I think chin-ups and heavy hip thrusts are the hardest big lifts, but they’re also two of my
favorites. Box jumps are another, as they are one of my favorites, but probably the most mentally challenging.
Hobbies outside of the gym: I’m a sound engineer and a total music junkie. Classic rock, heavy metal, and early 90’s are my favorite genres. I play a little guitar and piano. I love to write and have been a paid writer since 2012. I love wakeboarding and being out on the lake.
Favorite food: grapes, sushi, and sour gummy candy
Dream vacation: I don’t have a dream vacation. I love spending time in NYC and Hawaii.
Theme song: anything by Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Jim Croce, The Rolling Stones……but Hocus Pocus by Focus could be my theme song.
What does it mean to you to have ideal fitness?: For ME it means being a well rounded athlete: strong, conditioned, flexible, athletic, powerful, quick, able to do most things, and healthy. For others, it means that you’re able to do what YOU like to do and feel good in your body. Everyone is individual and all goals are equal.
What do you love most about IRON?: IRON is a 2nd (or maybe 1st) home for me. The people there are family and the gym atmosphere is great.
